Join us for this rare opportunity to become a certified tai chi instructor of the only known lineage holder of the Taoist Water tradition in the West.
Bruce will share his 40 years of experience practicing and teaching tai chi, including his knowledge as a lineage holder in both the Wu style and Yang style of tai chi. Bruce focuses his teaching on the Wu style, a small-frame style of tai chi chuan, since it is especially known for its healing and meditation components.
In this course, Bruce will focus his teachings on:
- The outer form—physical postures and movements
- The inner form and chi techniques hidden within the form are done (as appropriate for Level 1 and Level 2 participants)
- Hidden medical qigong technology and self-defense techniques
- How the same physical and energetic principles cross over in the Wu and Yang styles of tai chi.
Level 1
Weeks 1-2
Move by move, Bruce will aim to teach the whole form emphasizing:
- Peng ("Ward Off")
- Lu ("Roll Back")
- Ji("Press Forward")
- An ("PushDown")
- WeightShifting
- Basic lower body alignments
- Rooting and specific exercises
- Upper body alignments
- Breathingmethods.
Weeks 3-4
Weeks 3 and 4 we will emphasize:
- How to recognize and correct an imbalance.
- Implications and techniques for lengthening all bodily tissues
- Circularity Power techniques, including fa jin
- Yielding/absorbing and
- The basics of Push Hands.
Level 2
Bruce will go into greater depth and refinements of all Level 1 material plus more for the Level 2 group. The exact timing of the following overview may shift slightly depending on the capacities of the trainees.
Weeks 1-2
- Lengthening and the body's yin and yang meridians
- Peng,Lu, Ji and An in Push Hands
- Deliberately inducing better blood circulation through breath and nerve release
- Forthose with Longevity Breathing™ Certification, methods for moving chi directly within the body.
Week 3-4
- Absorption/Discharge in each movement of the form
- Spherical movement methods
- Different types of fa jin
- Working with the body's cavities.
